SVU versus The Rotten Cherries Bout Wrap Up 4/27/13

This past weekend the Lehigh Valley Rollergirls’ (LVRG) Special Vixens Unit (SVU) bouted against the Black Rose Roller’s Rotten Cherries.  Traveling from Hanover, PA, the Black Rose Rollers were a virtual wild card coming into this bout, as LVRG did not know what to expect in their abilities. However, LVRG showed a commanding presence immediately in the first few minutes of game play. Breaking out from the pack were LVRG jammers Toxic Shock, Catalina Spine Mixer, Christie Winkler and rookie Thelma Van.

Within the first handful of jams, LVRG’s jammers were able to secure a 73-3 lead over the Rotten Cherries.   LVRG looked strong and were able to secure the majority of lead jammer statuses. However, the Black Rose Rollers were able to capitalize on their power jam advantage that they had in the first half. LVRG had three power jams, and the Black Rose Rollers had five.  Those additional power jams allowed the Black Rose team to catch up in points, but they were still defended aggressively by LVRG’s strong blocking line including Phish Tahko, Tortelina Temptress and Cagey Rage.  Even with high penalties from the LVRG bench, the Rotten Cherries still fell short in the first half of game play with a half time score favoring LVRG of 142-82.

At half time, LVRG’s Captain, Wayward Stay, gave her teammates an additional boost of energy and confidence with advice and motivation moving forward. Her advice was to continue to protect the inside line and to focus on securing lead jammer status. LVRG did just that following the second half as they secured over 84% of the second half’s available lead jammer statuses.   Notably, LVRG Jammer Toxic Shock produced a 29 point jam followed by a 25 point jam by Catalina Spine Mixer.  Notable jams by the Rotten Cherries included a 24 point jam by #4, Polly Sack R’Hyde and a 20 point jam by #11 Miss Fit.

Towards the end of the second half, LVRG blockers DTainHer, Double Barrel Hot Gunz and Daisy Destructo were relentless in their pursuit of hunting down the Black Rose jammers.  Daisy Destructo in particular was seen hitting their jammers over and over and over again.  In the second half of game play, LVRG managed to score an additional 182 points, whereas the Rotten Cherries were held to only 36 points.  The match resulted in a win for LVRG’s Special Vixen Unit with a score of 324-118.

Looking ahead, LVRG’s Hissy Fits will be taking on Harrisburg Area Roller Derby’s (HARD) WFTDA team.   LVRG is considered to be the heavy favorite based on flattrackstats.com. It is currently predicted that HARD will score only 3 points for every 8 points that LVRG scores.  This game is very important for LVRG as it will help the team increase its national rankings.  The game is not to be underestimated though as veteran skaters from HARD are returning and will surely challenge LVRG’s abilities.
LVRG will bout HARD on May 11th, doors open at 5:00p.m, game starts at 6:00p.m.

Also, come meet your favorite Roller Girl this weekend for QUADRO DE MAYO (May 4th) at Roosevelt's. There will be drink and food specials along with all of your LVRG favorites.

All functions will be held at the Independence Family Fun Center, 4345 Independence Dr, Schnecksville, PA.
