Metal Vixens vs NJRD - Bout Wrap-Up 9/6/14

This weekend the Lehigh Valley Rollergirls’ (LVRG) Metal Vixens traveled to New Jersey to take on the New Jersey Roller Derby (NJRD)  All-Stars.  Don’t be fooled by the NJRD short roster, these girls are tough!  With names like Maulin Rouge, Slam Hathaway and Chase Windu, the New Jersey girls weren’t just all smiles, they were all about business when they got on the track. According to flattrackstats.com, NJRD was predicted to win over LVRG with an 83% chance, with the scoring ratio of 37 points for LVRG to 57 points for NJRD.

NJRD set up their first defensive line with some strong blockers. However the first few jams of the game favored LVRG with a quick 24 to 2 lead. LVRG secured lead jammer status multiple times in a row and continued to capitalize on that point by point, bringing the score up to 62-33 (LVRG) with 8 minutes left in the first half. Both teams had multiple players sent off to the penalty box, however neither team let that challenge over take them.  LVRG continued to drive up the score to 94-50 at half time.

After halftime LVRG put up a flurry of points taking them to 105 and kept NJRD held at 55 points for 4 jams.  However, with a few NJRD power jams, about 12 minutes into the second half, NJRD brought the score a little closer to 131 LVRG to 101 NJRD.  This was the closest point spread the teams had since the beginning of the game, so LVRG called a much needed time out to break NJRD’s momentum. After the quick recoup, LVRG pushed forward and kept control of lead jammer status.  There was a quick burst of points from NJRD near the end of the game. However, at the final whistle, the Lehigh Valley Rollergirls’ Metal Vixens kept their undefeated record and beat NJRD 162-128.

Looking ahead, both the Metal Vixens and the LVRG All-Stars travel to Knoxville on September 20th for a double header.  Then you can see the Metal Vixens play the Blast Furnace Betties at home October 4th.
