SVU vs. Ithaca's Blue Stockings 8/10/13 Bout Wrap Up

This past Saturday the Lehigh Valley Rollergirls’ (LVRG) Special Vixens Unit (SVU) traveled to Ithaca, NY to play one of their closest bouts this season against Ithaca League of Women’s Blue Stockings.

Skating in their first bout on polished concrete, LVRG's SVU seemed to have some difficulty during warm-ups getting used to the new skating surface. However, at the first whistle of the game, both teams seemed evenly matched.  The Blue Stockings took a quick lead over LVRG 19-5, but the Special Vixens Unit answered right back a few jams later with the first power jam of the game 10 minutes into game play. LVRG’s Jammer Toxic Shock took command during this power jam helping to even up the score to 31-32 favoring LVRG.

For the next 9 minutes of game play LVRG’s blockers formed tight and solid walls. Under the direction of Captain Wayward Stay, LVRG blockers Stella Mac, Tortellina Temptress, Sly Shalom, $he Rock$, and Cagey Rage held the Blue Stockings to a 1 to 3 point scoring ratio in LVRG's favor. However after this large lead was obtained by LVRG, Ithaca Jammer Riot Angel, #33, helped to capitalize on some SVU penalties and gained Ithaca 25 points in a much needed Ithaca power jam. At half time, the score was within 11 points with a score of 82-93 favoring LVRG.

At the start of the second half, the SVU, led by lead Jammers Levilin Levi and Arista Crash, seemed to dominate in their offensive strategies.  They shut out Ithaca 7 jams in a row, not allowing them to either gain lead jammer status or collect any points.  After 10 minutes passed in the second half, the score favored LVRG 82-144. 

Ithaca then called a quick time out and readjusted their strategy. Blue Stockings Blockers BeeBee Gunn, Motley Crouton, Hanna Solo and Fanny Farmer returned with a vengeance and played a pivotal role in forcing track cuts by the LVRG jammers.  With 11 minutes left in the game, Ithaca’s roller girls caught up fast with two power jams, bringing the score to 127-154 (LVRG).

Without a doubt, it was anyone’s game at this point. LVRG’s Beck-n-Hater, DTainHer, Double Barrel Hotgunz, Razor Ramona and Kate Santee held their defensive line as strong as they could to defend what was about to happen next.  LVRG’s jammer was sent to the box, and yet another power jam advantage was given to Ithaca. This brought the score to 146-161, LVRG. With less than 2 minutes left in the game, and potentially the last jam of the night, LVRG committed another jammer penalty, awarding yet another power jam to Ithaca.  Ithaca scored 13 points in that power jam before the SVU jammer returned from the box. After one minute passed, and the LVRG jammer came back on the track, both teams were scoring point for point as the jam ended. This gave the win to LVRG. The final score was 159-169.

Looking ahead, LVRG’s Hissy Fits will be bouting the Salisbury All Stars on August 24, 2013. 

The Special Vixens Unit will be playing their next game on September 7th against Iron Mountain.
