This past weekend the Long Island Rock-A-Betty Bruisers (Rock-A-Betties)
traveled to Schnecksville, PA to meet up with the Lehigh Valley Rollergirls’
(LVRG) Blast Furnace Betties. According
to flattrackstats.com, LVRG had a 73% chance of winning with a predicted
scoring ratio of 17 points to 13 points.
Led by team captain #32, CTHU’ Lou, the Rock-A-Betties, started
the game with some strong defense. For the first 5 minutes of game play, the
score was low and tightly matched (5 to 8 favoring LVRG). However, LVRG’s Jammer #514 Dottie Deathwish capitalized
on an early power jam and pushed LVRG into an early 10-41 lead over the
Rock-A-Betties. About half way through
the first half, LVRG kept their momentum going and continued to build on their
score one point at a time. With 12 minutes
left in the first half, the score was 42-80 with LVRG in the lead. Led by Captain Tortellina Temptress, LVRG
held the Rock-A-Betties to a 42 point score for 7 more jams while they
continued to run up their own score to 141 points. At the end of the first half, LVRG had a
commanding lead over the Rock-A-Betties, 56-165.

The second half of game play seemed to be no different than
the first half. Rock-A-Betty blockers #516 Gertie Bomb, #44 Pac-Jam, and jammer
#29 Forn Star did their best against a solid LVRG defense. However the Lehigh Valley Rollergirls’ Blast
Furnace Betties kept their focus and continued to rack up more points. Half way
through the second half of game play the score was 70-245 (LVRG).
“The Blast Furnace Betties have come a long way in 2014.
They have learned to evolve as a team and because of it, you are seeing a
higher level of roller derby on the local level. These girls live the sport and
are actively seeking out the best offensive and defensive tactics to win each
game,” commented by LVRG Captain Tortellina Temptress.

For the remainder of the game, the penalty box continued to
be filled, sending multiple players off the track due to player ejections. However, even short a few players, LVRG continued to dominate the
scoreboard. At the end of the game, the Blast Furnace Betties took the win with
a final score of 101-331.
Looking ahead, the Lehigh Valley Rollergirls’ Metal Vixens
take on New Jersey Roller Derby in Morristown, PA on 9/6/14.
